PARENTS' MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are your classroom ratios?
18 to 30 months - 1:7
There is always someone at our Front Reception Desk to greet anyone entering the building. When parents enroll, they designate who has permission to pick up their child/children. We require anyone picking up a child to present a photo ID, checking to see if they are authorized to pick up the child.

Each classroom has cameras for Internet viewing. At present it is not real video but stillshots that are refreshed every 4 seconds. During the day, you are able to go back to any time period and review that part of the day. The system is "refreshed" daily.

You also receive a "Daily Take Home Report" which lists your child's activities, weekly theme, teacher comments and the food he/she consumed. In infant rooms and non-potty trained rooms, it will also give times of diaper changes.

On a day-to-day basis, parents have an opportunity to talk with their child's teacher(s) about the kind of day the child had.
Do you have much teacher turnover?
30 to 36 months - 1:8
We have an open door policy for parents visiting as long as it does not interfere with our program. Mothers who are nursing infants are always welcome.
School age - 1:18
For the youngest infants, they have individual schedules determined by the parents with regards to eating and napping. As they grow older, there is a class schedule with a combination of active and quiet time, indoor and outdoor activities, meal time, and group and individual time.
When are you closed?
When do children move to the next older room?
All staff meets the state requirements of our licensing agency, Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. Each person has to have a fingerprint check, high school diploma or GED, medical exam, and 3 written references. Many of our staff have college degrees or CDA (Child Development Associate) credentials. If they do not have these credentials, they have to take 15 in-service hours of training each year until they have 45 hours total as required.
We strive to meet the needs of the children. If they are unable to eat certain foods that we offer, you may send ready to eat food for them that meets the dietary requirements of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Since there seems to be an increase in serious nut allergies, we strive to be a nut-free environment.

Transitions to the next older room are based on development and age. We uniquely divide infants into 3 rooms:

Immobile - approximately 6 weeks to 8 months

Crawlers - approximately 8 to 13 months

Walkers - approximately 13 to 18 months

The toddlers are divided in approximately 6 month age intervals so activities can be targeted to their development. In pre-school we divide them by the date they will enter kindergarten so they begin to develop age appropriate skills and friendships that will continue as they enter school.

If a child has a temperature of over 100 degrees and another symptom, they must be picked up promptly and cannot return to the center until they have been fever-free for 24 hours. If it is suspected that they have contagious symptoms, they must be seen by a physician to confirm and if they have a condition, they must be out until they are no longer contagious. Parents must notify us of their child's condition so we can inform other parents and staff in the child's room.
We are closed for 6 holidays a year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. We may close early on Christmas and New Year's Eves. We rarely close for bad weather, but if it is a Level 3 Snow Emergency we are required to close. In other circumstances, it is dependent on staff being able to travel and forecast road conditions.
We have a high retention record for our teachers since we provide above average compensation, benefits, and training. There will always be some turnover due to relocation, pregnancy, returning to school, and other professional issues.
We maintain the state required ratios in all rooms and in the youngest infant room we use a ratio of 1:4. Depending on enrollment, the ratios may be lower.
Do you do a background check on teachers?
What is your vacation policy?
As required in our regulations, ALL staff must have background checks. Fingerprints are checked by computer with the Ohio Bureau of Identification and Investigation. If they have lived out of state or cannot prove state residency for at least 5 years, their fingerprints are also submitted to the FBI for a record check.
